Arsenal chairman Sir Chips Keswick says the wage demands of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez will not be met

chairman Sir Chips Keswick has suggested his side will not meet the
wage demands of superstar duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

The Chilean and the German who are the club's higest paid players will be out of contract next summer.
It
is believed that each wants a significant pay rises before committing
their respective long-term future to the Gunners. Despite the club's
healthy finances (Arsenal are the seventh richest club in the world) and
the duo's status as key players, it appears that Arsenal are determined
to not be held to ransom.
According
to reports Sanchez and Ozil want deals worth up to £250,000-per-week
which would mean a £110,000 weekly increase, even though both are
already top earners at the Emirates.
The
Gunners have cash reserves in excess of £100m, but Keswick has insisted
that Arsenal remain committed to what he describes as only 'rational'
investment when it comes to squad retention.
"We have continued to invest in the region of key players," the chairman is widely quoted as saying by the Mirror.

Coquelin, Hector Bellerin, Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud have
all signed new contracts, while we have taken up options to extend the
contracts of Per Mertesacker and Santi Cazorla.
"Further work is required in the area of contract renewals and we will continue to invest rationally in our squad retention.
"As expected, increased
Premier League broadcasting revenues have had a direct impact on player
costs both in terms of transfer prices and player wage demands.
"While
these are market forces that have contributed directly over time to the
success of the Premier League, I would sound a note of caution in light
of the very material contractual commitments to future wages that clubs
are taking on."

If Arsenal do not renew the contracts of their star players, they will have to consider selling them at the end of the season.
The Gunners could risk losing them as free agents in 2018 and seeing a £77m investment go down the drain.
