Arsenal are believed to have requested that the England international
be included in a player-plus-cash swap deal for Alexis Sanchez, though
City refused and the deadline day deal collapsed.
But, according to the Telegraph, both Arsenal and Chelsea are convinced that City are preparing the way for Sterling to leave and will make a move for him.

It is likely to be a two-horse race between the clubs, with City
unwilling to sell to rivals United, Tottenham unable to afford his wages
and Sterling unwilling to return to Liverpool.
With Bernardo Silva’s arrival likely to impede Sterling’s game time,
and City set to try again for Sanchez in January, the 22-year-old could
soon find himself struggling to make the bench.

However, he is currently an important first-team player, and was
voted the club’s player of the month after netting decisive late goals
against Bournemouth and Everton.
But he will miss the clash against Liverpool at the weekend after
picking up a red card, while he was usurped in the England ranks by
Marcus Rashford after the youngster’s star turn.
England boss Gareth Southgate has previously told his players that
failure to play for their domestic clubs would impact their
international careers, and Sterling is mindful of that fact.
He will not want to lose his place in the Three Lions’ side in a
World Cup year, and both Arsenal and Chelsea could offer a more secure
first-team berth than he will get at City if Sanchez finally arrives.
